You can use dovecots deliver program with procmail, it also trips the from
lines. It works well for me since July 2006.
Logging is done through the procmail logging.

[I'm interested in this too] use a proxy server eg. dovecot which
act as a imap proxy to gmail and can be hosted on closer, faster server
and this speed problem never happend. what's more it can be used as a
mail backup server too.

I would expect this means the end of UWIMAP....which probably leaves DC [Dovecot] as open-source IMAP of choice. [That's what I think]
